Corpus Christi 2011

July 6th, 2011 · Holy Days & Feast Days, Rosary

On Sunday, June 26, 2011 at 2:00 PM Bishop Robert Cunningham celebrated the Solemnity of the Holy Body & Blood of Christ at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Syracuse, New York. Immediately following the Mass the Blessed Sacrament was exposed on the altar for adoration.

At 3:15 PM the Bishop, accompanied by priests and friars from the Cathedral and the Franciscan Church of the Assumption along with approximately 200 of the faithful left the Cathedral in procession with the Blessed Sacrament. We processed with the Blessed Sacrament through the streets of Syracuse from the Cathedral to the Church of the Assumption on N. Salina St. During the procession Father Joseph Scardella led the participants in the Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary and we sang eucharistic hymns between the decades of the Rosary. As the Blessed Sacrament approached the Church of the Assumption (about 3:50 PM) the church bell’s began to ring and continued to ring until the procession had entered the church shortly after 4:00 PM.

The Bishop again exposed the Blessed Sacrament on the altar and all present knelt and were led in the Litany of the Sacred Heart of Jesus by Father Joseph Scardella. The Bishop celebrated Benediction during which the choir of the church assisted most beautifully along with all the faithful. Thank you Bishop Cunningham!

Overall the afternoon was a wonderfully spiritual and uplifting experience.

Happy Independence Day

July 4th, 2011 · Patria

In the United States of America we celebrate today, July 4th, as the day we rejected tyranny and religious persecution 235 years ago. A grand experiment was begun that resulted in a democratic republic that has proven to be unequaled in the world. The country that emerged from the Revolution against Great Britain that began in 1776 defied every odd against it and would go on to survive it’s own rebellion only 85 years later. A rebellion against truth and justice but which failed because it was opposed to those very principles.

As it began, so it continued to grow and become a standard bearer for truth and justice around the world. America became known for its freedoms and opportunity. She became a magnet for anyone seeking release from tyranny and injustice and who sought the freedom to worship in their religion. America drew into her embrace people from every race and nation and became a true “melting pot” of humanity where all came together perhaps preserving their own cultural identities but also taking on the new identity of an “American”.

Today, Americans are still fighting for truth and justice in the world but even more so here at home. Over the last 60 years, slowly but surely, both truth and justice have been eroded and we find ourselves approaching a crossroad where religious freedom is becoming more and more threatened.

May the one God, the Almighty, the creator of the Universe, continue to strengthen and bless America and may He protect us against all evil that we might once more be united for truth and justice for all people.

Pope Approves Condom use — NOT!

November 22nd, 2010 · Uncategorized

I feel compelled to break my blog silence. Our mass media, as are so many of us everyday Catholics, no longer applies reason and intellect to interpret what is read or heard. We reduce what is consumed to some lowest common denominator which often turns out to be a complete misunderstanding of the original. This is what has happened with the latest rush by the media to proclaim that Pope Benedict has loosed the bonds condom use and is approving it in some cases. Nothing could be further from the truth but rather than reinvent the wheel (or in this case the explanation) I’ll point you to an article that does an excellent job of illuminating what was said and what was meant and what was not said and what was not meant!

The Pope Said WHAT about Condoms???
